Apr. 17 – Welcome to ASEAN Briefing. This independent website is run by Asia Briefing Ltd., with content produced in association with the tax and legal professionals at the foreign-direct investment consulting practice, Dezan Shira & Associates. The emergence of China as the world’s largest trading nation over the past 20 years has had a significant impact upon the rest of Asia; especially the ASEAN region. ASEAN – a free trade bloc that includes the countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – is situated in the heart of Asia, and combines both existing powerful economies with emerging nations. With China to the East, and India to the West, the ASEAN bloc is of immense significance for global trade within the region and has additional implications for global trade patterns with the United States, EU, Middle East, Australasia, the rest of Asia, in addition to Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Rim countries.

This website is constructed in a library and archive format, where we have collected the various and increasing number of double taxation agreements and free trade agreements that ASEAN and its individual members states have with other nations – including China, India, and other globally important trade partners such as the United States and the European Union. We also publish similar information concerning other Asian-influenced free trade agreements, such as the ASEAN Free Trade Area, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
