Focus on China-Malaysian Bilateral Trade

Apr. 18 – The 10th China-ASEAN Expo 2013 (CAEXPO) will be held in Nanning, Guangxi Province in China, from September 23 to 26, 2013. The CAEXPO, co-organized annually since 2004 by China and ASEAN, has been credited as an effective platform to promote cooperation between China and ASEAN member countries in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.

During the CAEXPO China ASEAN Promotion Conference in Sarakaw earlier this week, Ong Yew Chee, director of the trade and services promotion division at the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), encouraged Sarawakians to participate in the expo as the state offers plenty of attractive and unique natural resources to showcase to countries such as China.

Liang Yiguang, assistant secretary general of CAEXPO secretariat said that the CAEXPO was set to be the “best springboard for Malaysian businesses to reach the Chinese market.” Additionally, he said CAEXPO had also become an important platform for Malaysia, China and other ASEAN countries to build bilateral trade partnerships, exchange ideas in various business fields, and strengthen economic ties. He also encouraged local investors to participate in CAEXPO as it opened up a large window of opportunities for Malaysian businesses to increase their presence in China as well as other ASEAN countries.

Matrade has targeted to bring more than 100 Malaysian companies to CAEXPO 2013, and will also be focusing on sectors such as lifestyle, food and beverages, health and wellness, green products, franchise, education and environmental services.
